James Marsden: 'Nobody Sets To produce a Bad Movie'
Hopefully this doesn't increase the risk for stand in the Meatball Shop anymore. Page Six reviews that carrying out a NY premiere of 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' on Monday evening, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes snuck off and away to grab dinner within the Meatball Shop's new West Village location. Apparently, the star couple was ornamented by "stunned" fans -- though maybe people everybody only agreed to be racking your brains on how Cruise could forgo the extended wait that accompany any visit to the tasty meat and sauce mecca. (You'll find no reservations.) Co-possessed by Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow, The Meatball Shop can be a self-known to "choose your individual adventure" dining experience. Patrons can choose from numerous meatball and sauce tastes -- from classic beef to parmesan cream. Written Holzman to Cruise on Twitter following star couple's appearance, "We imagine you loved the balls." Zinger! Nonetheless they just do call the meatballs "balls" at Meatball Shop. It's on the internet and everything. Cruise stars in 'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol,' that's in theaters now. Critic's Self-help guide to a couple of days in TV: Finales, Musical and Comedy Divas, plus much more!
Allison Burns 'Twas a couple of days before Christmas, which i can not remember whenever a lot was stirring on tv this late to the year. Listed here are a couple of highlights from an abnormally busy pre-Christmas week.MONDAYDINO-MIGHT? The finest cliffhanger in regards to the two-hour finale of Fox's time-tripping family sci-fi drama Terra Nova (8/7c) isn't a lot what continues around the program, that's fairly standard action-adventure mayhem, but whether it will return for just about any second season next season. (That decision needs to be made fairly at the beginning of 2012.) If you are in a position to accept the fact this lavishly produced exercise in escapist corn provides extensive feel from the old-fashioned comic when compared to a newfangled graphic novel, it is not tough to savor the melodrama. The finale can get away and off to a effective start when an entering mercenary military from 2149, performing on orders in the greedily rapacious Phoenix Group, explosively interrupts the look in the eleventh Pilgrimage. Sheriff Jim Shannon (Jason O'Mara) is strongly sidelined inside the skirmish, and wakes days later with a disorienting tableau of military occupation. With Commander Taylor (Stephen Lang) MIA inside the backwoods, Jim plays resistance leader from the inside, but eventually the entire Shannon family needs to get involved with hiding, resembling the Von Trapps within the finish in the Appear of Music. And often, it's just as schmaltzy. It is not a spoiler conscious of think that the Shannon kids, who make Cindy Lou Who look edgy, should never be in any real danger. Except possibly from the saccharine OD.The villains, meanwhile, are cartoonishly garish, starting with Taylor's psychotically vengeful physicist boy Lucas (Ashley Zuckerman). When Lucas boasts with a tool named Weaver, most likely probably the most odious in the Phoenix leaders, they might strip half of the unspoiled region of the natural assets in six several days, Weaver really cackles, "That's what I enjoy hear. ... Be one hell from the barbecue lower here." Oh, Weaver, you're asking for it. Through the experience, the foundation of Lucas' patricidal enmity is revealed, and Jim executes a serious plan to stop Phoenix that will affect the colony's as well as the series' future, if there's one. And may Fox decide Terra Nova is just too pricey a business without enough return to keep on, there's sufficient closure in this particular finale to keep the fans from going too T-Rex.Taking A FALL: Getting had luck in past Christmas days with extended programming stunts showing Deal Or No Deal as well as the Sing-Away and off to substantial audiences, NBC is wanting the spectacle of quiz-show participants falling through trap entrance doors will probably be similarly appealing. This is actually the flimsy gimmick of Who's Still Standing? (8/7c), airing through Thursday, but even host Ben Bailey (of cash Cab) can't appear to not become upset relating to this. The premise: A contestant - inside the opener, a genial Arkansas volleyball coach - faces off against 10 others in your mind-to-mind trivia models. Once the player outlasts five of his noisally taunting rivals, they may keep the money they've acquired (each opponent is designated another and random money value). Beat all 10, as well as the prize is $millions of. Hardly any in it, but who'd have suspected the stupid show while using briefcases would gain popularity? ... Once the trap entrance doors introduced with a lizard pit, you'd be in Fear Factor territory, too as with this week's episode (9/8c), that's what continues, while you team member is incorporated with hundreds of snakes because the other moves the snakes using their mouth. As well as the champion from the show only can get $50,000. Hardly seems enough.SOUL Brothers and sisters: A tribute for the late Amy Winehouse is probably the highlights from the year's VH1 Divas Takes note of Soul concert special (9/8c), with Florence Welch of Florence + The Gear joining with Wanda Jackson and Sharon Manley & The Dap-Nobleman. Other headliners include Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott and Jessie J, each saluting the urban centers that inspired their soulful styles, including Chicago, Detroit, London, Memphis and Philadelphia.GUEST ALERT: Round the next-to-last episode in the Closer's winter several weeks (TNT, 9/8c), Major Crimes inspections the hit-and-run from the youthful female bicyclist, with Desperate Housewives' Mark Moses and Weeds' Elizabeth Perkins turning up as L.A.'s police commissioner and also the wife, who may be hiding a scandal. ... On Rizzoli & Isles (10/9c), Lolita Davidovich returns as Korsak's ex-wife, when the sarge's stepson is billed with shooting a cop.TUESDAYKATHY THE TIRELESS: Comedy diva Kathy Griffin bestows another gift on her behalf account snark-hungry fans along with her fourth Bravo comedy special this year: Kathy Griffin: Tired Hooker (10/9c). It is not like she's ever missing for material. Among her targets, skewered before a offered-out audience in Atlantic City: no-longer-wedding couple Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries, without any-longer-got married Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, getting a salvo specific at Nancy Sophistication on her behalf Dwts wardrobe malfunction. Bravo, Kathy!SANTA'S Popular: Applying a lighter touch than a lot of the recent batch of TNT Mystery Movies, Deck the Halls (9/8c) is founded on the holiday mystery books put together by Mary Higgins Clark and daughter Carol. That may explain the tight bond involving the movie's heroine, gorgeous P.I. Regan Reilly (Scottie Thompson), and her mother, mystery author Nora (Jane Alexander), who synergy with amateur sleuth/lottery champion Alvirah Meegan (a very welcome Kathy Najimy) when Nora's husband (David Selby) is kidnapped having a thug in the Santa suit 72 hrs before Christmas. Can it be wrong that after i seen Alexander and Selby together, I possibly could not shake the memory from the graphic sex moments in HBO's short-were living Tell Me You Want Me? Don't worry. Mtss is a person's strictly PG.WEDNESDAYREALITY FINALES: It'll be a Merry Christmas for an individual now, like the champion of Bravo's stimulating Factor of beauty: The Next Great Artist (9/8c), which supplies the three runners up - Sara, Kymia and front-runner Youthful - an chance to show their collections for the idol idol judges, while using champion going onto a solo exhibition within the Brooklyn Museum. ... Top Chef: Texas (10/9c) remains a while from crowning its champion, too as with this week's episode, the Quickfire challenge forces the chefs to think about instructions from tweets on Twitter, that's probably more annoying laptop or computer even sounds. Patti LaBelle is guest judge for your elimination round, in which the chefs create a "tribute dish" in recognition of the baby who trained them their way around a kitchen. Most most likely not while tweeting. After which it there's Fox's The X Factor (8/7c), while using final 90-minute performance show divvied up among the three runners up: Melanie Amaro (the widely used, or otherwise mine), dark equine Josh Krajkic and addict-switched-rapper Chris Rene, which has most likely probably the most compelling personal story. Who'll win? Who's left of taking care of, considering that inside an act of ultimate hubris, the $5 million champion won't be introduced until Thursday, awfully close to Christmas for a number of the actual existence being dedicated to the champion from the overblown singing competition.SURREALITY FINALE: They've barely had time to cleanup the bloody mess from last week's having a baby episode of FX's American Horror Story (10/9c), which was less terrible than horrible as Vivien predictably grew to become an associate from the ranks in the house's dense (in several ways) population of ghosts. Inside the season finale from the stupefyingly lurid hot mess, the fate in the which makes it through baby - and, most most likely, the which makes it through Harmon (Dylan McDermott) - sets happens for next season. Calling all exorcists!JUST IN (JUSTIN) TIME: Once The X Factor strikes you as off-key, you'll find other available options, including CBS's A Home for your Holidays With Martina McBride (8/7c), the thirteenth annual holiday special extolling the advantages of adoption. Among people joining McBride in musical performances: Mary J. Blige, Gavin DeGraw, OneRepublic as well as the ubiquitous Justin Beiber. ... Exactly how all pervading might be the Beeb? More youthful crowd appears in NBC's A Michael Bublé Christmas (9/8c), acquiring another airing following a crooner's effective Saturday Evening Live appearance. ... And TLC weighs in at in at together with That Is Attacking Youthful Boys (9/8c), a holiday special featuring acoustic versions of tunes from Bieber's Beneath the Mistletoe Christmas album, plus footage of Bieber london, plus a performance round the X Factor Uk, which in some manner brings everything dizzyingly full circle. Don't allowed this to be the start of a Bieber celebrity-reality show. I wouldn't put anything past TLC.THURSDAYWINNING: The champion in the X Factor (8/7c) is revealed in what's sure to become deafening two-hour live results show (which is simply the noise in the studio audience). ... But another reality competition involves a blingy finish, as Lifetime's Project Accessory (10/9c) shows the three finalists' designs before NY fashionistas. Was anybody aware it had been still on?FRIDAYTHE OTHER BEEB: In the fun experiment of TV as radio, NPR's popular and Peabody-winning Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me! quiz show-with-a-twist involves BBC America for just about any year-finish special, Wait Wait ... Don't Tell Me! A Royal Discomfort in news reviews (8/7c). With "everyone's favorite news uncle" Carl Kasell as announcer and scorekeeper, as well as the genially glib Peter Sagal as host, happens is positioned for topical and comedy banter just like a panel including Paula Poundstone, Last Comic Standing's Alonzo Bodden and British wit Nick Hancock area questions and commentary on subjects including Occupy Wall Street, the Murdochs as well as the year in politics. Here's Bodden round the coverage in the attack round the Occupy Wall Street protester, likening it for the civil rights movement: "Enjoy the pepper spray. We'd fire hoses. Less spicy, a little more pressure." Fantasy author Neil Gaiman is triggered for just about any special round of questions regarding the royal wedding of William and Kate. He's doing a lot better than it may seem.THE CHUCK WAGON: If you're looking for brand new network fare round the eve of Christmas Eve, NBC continues eliminating the best season of Chuck (8/7c) having a completely new episode featuring comics legend Stan Lee, who not such a long time ago romanced the stone - by which we mean stone-faced but deep-lower warm-hearted General Beckman (Bonita Friedericy). Christmas isn't peaceful within the Buy More, just like a trojan viruses referred to as "the Omen" takes are equipped for Carmichael Industries, however when it's going viral, eventually eventually ends up delivering plenty of clients for the store on Christmas Eve for a lot of Nerd Herd maintenance.(On actual Christmas Eve, beginning at 8/7c, things go back to normal, with NBC re-airing It's a Wonderful Existence opposite ABC's perennial The Appear of Music, as the best spinner's revs up its 24 Several hours from the Christmas Story marathon, which continues through Christmas Day. That is a great deal a lot more like it.)With this particular, a want happy viewing using the holidays.Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Occupy Protestors Shut Down 'Law & Order: SVU' Production During 'Mockupy' (Video)
The stories are heart-rending. There's the girl who's not allowed to be alone with her father because he tried to burn off her hands when she was younger. The teenager whose father works so hard as a truck driver that he barely sees her. And the 16-year-old whose two sisters were victims of sexual abuse; she says she's lucky to have escaped it.our editor recommendsAndrea Riseborough, Felicity Jones Talk Fashion at THR's Women in Entertainment BreakfastTHR Women in Entertainment Attendees Answer: What Makes a Power Leader? The program pairs 12 to 15 girls with high-level agents, publicists, lawyers and executives, and every girl spends at least one afternoon per fortnight in her mentor's office during the course of a year. By the end of 2013, more than 40 girls from LAUSD's Belmont, Crenshaw and Roosevelt high schools, along with the Santee Education Complex, will have gone through the program, which continues this year thanks to funding from Gersh, Guggenheim Partners, Lifetime Television and BCBG Max Azria Group. COMPLETE LIST: 2011 Women in Entertainment Power 100 To earn a spot, girls must have a 3.0 GPA, write an essay explaining how the program would help them and be interviewed by a BBBS executive and a THR editor -- quite a challenge for teens who rarely have interacted with adults outside their environment. "They all come from tough backgrounds," says Terry Carreto, a college and career counselor at Theodore Roosevelt High in East Los Angeles, one of the participating schools. "Many come from single-parent families where their mothers are working almost 24/7. They get home, the parents aren't there. And they still have to maintain their grades." The Mentorship Program launched in early 2010 as a bold experiment founded on the hope that the girls' grades and lives would soar if they were given a chance. But they were unfamiliar with the professional world, especially at the exalted level of mentors such as Anne Sweeney, co-chairman of Disney Media Networks; Warner Bros. marketing president Sue Kroll; and Universal Pictures co-chairman Donna Langley -- and frequently the mentors weren't entirely sure how to handle inexperienced adolescents. "Trust-building had to occur," says Tiffany Siart, head of BBBS of Greater L.A. About three months in, fear lifted and bonds formed. Many mentors worked closely with their mentees through high school, and their relationships have continued as girls from our pilot year have entered college. Of the original 12, four were accepted to UC Berkeley; others have gone on to Occidental College, UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount -- remarkable for disadvantaged teens. One mentor, former Universal production president Debbie Liebling, kept working with her mentee even after losing her job; next summer, the mentee will intern at Liebling's new workplace, Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films. Another, attorney Melanie Cook, helped her mentee get medical aid after she was diagnosed with a multiple sclerosis-like condition that could have prevented her from attending Berkeley. PHOTOS: 2011 Women in Entertainment Power 100 WME agent Nancy Josephson has proved a model: Her mentee, Maira Solis, came to her office twice a week -- far more than the obligatory once a fortnight. Josephson has created her own program, pairing more than 20 WME agents with children at Foster Elementary in Compton, meeting twice a month. "We've copied THR," she says. "But our goal is to stay with them all the way through high school." The most touching part of the experience for Josephson was when she took Solis to her own children's school in Brentwood, where counselors helped with her college applications. "That was very emotional," says Josephson. "She said, 'I have a new dream: I want to send my children to a school like this.' Two More Comedy Pitches Land At Systems
Fox has bought Make Room, rapport comedy from author/executive producer Timothy Stack (Boy From The Beach), as the CW has bought The Makery, an ensemble multi-camera/hybrid comedy compiled by Jason Benoit and executive created by Teri Weinberg and Scott Aversano. Make Room, from twentieth century Fox TV, focuses on a few within their late 20s who divorce and finish up in necessity of living together within the same apartment because of the economic crisis. Paradigm-repped Stack would be a talking to producer on NBCsMy Title Is Earl where younger crowd performed Tim Stack, a imaginary version of themself. He's presently a talking to producer on Fox’s Raising Hope. The Makery, from Weinberg’s Yellow Brick Road and Aversano’s Aversano Films, explores the existence encounters of several 20-somethings in today’s tech-driven, business generation with the eyes of Ky Harrel and her sex and associations column.

Casting Standout: 'Warrior'
Casting Standout: 'Warrior' By Pete Keeley November 30, 2011 Photo by Opulence Studios From King Vidor's Depression-era talkie "The Champ" to last year's David O. Russell film "The Fighter," the world of boxing has appealed to filmmakers as a natural setting for character-driven drama. And something about portraying fighters seems to bring out the best in actors. "The Champ" earned its lead, Wallace Beery, an Oscar in 1932. In 1955, Marlon Brando netted his first Oscar for his portrayal of down-and-out former boxer Terry Malloy in "On the Waterfront." In 1981, Robert De Niro won his second for his performance as "Raging Bull" 's Jake La Motta. And in 2005, Hilary Swank took home her second Oscar for her role in "Million Dollar Baby." Recently, as the popularity of boxing has declined and the popularity of mixed martial arts competitions such as Pride and the Ultimate Fighting Championship has soared, filmmakers have taken notice."Warrior" tells the story of Marine Tommy Conlon (Tom Hardy), who goes AWOL after a firefight that claims the life of his best friend, and returns to his hometown of Pittsburgh to lay low. When he rejoins his old boxing gym, now converted to an MMA training center, he learns of Sparta, an upcoming winner-take-all competition. Tommy enlists his estranged father, Paddy (Nick Nolte), to help him train in hopes of winning the $5 million purse, which he promises to the widow of his fallen comrade. Meanwhile, 300 miles to the east, Tommy's brother, Brendan (Joel Edgerton), a former amateur fighter and now a high school physics teacher and family man, begins fighting again after he learns he's in danger of losing his house to foreclosure. After the premier fighter at his gym suffers a knee injury, Brendan convinces his trainer to enter him in Sparta. For casting director Randi Hiller, the challenge was finding two men for the leads who could provide the requisite physicality and masculinity while convincingly inhabiting the roles of brothers who were, in her words, "able to wear where the separate roads of their life took them."For Tommya character who wears his rage and resentment on his shirtsleeve, a fighter who, as the saying goes, "fights angry," and overwhelms his opponent with brute strengththe key was an actor who could embody that menace while revealing glimpses of the decent, moral person he is at heart: the war hero, the man estranged from his own family but dedicated to helping that of his friend. "You believe that Tom could kick somebody's ass," says Hiller, but there's also "an element of being a very damaged little boy, as well as a hard-fighting guy. And if he was just a straight-up hard-ass without some kind of vulnerability, you wouldn't feel for him at all. And that's what Tom has: He has a vulnerability and a masculinity, as well as that sense of danger."For Brendan, the dichotomy of outward aggression and inward virtue is reversed. He is a teacher, universally liked by his students, and a loyal family man who seems to have largely put his troubled past behind him. As a fighter, he's more of a tactician, waiting patiently to take advantage of his opponents' mistakes. You don't have to believe that he can fight so much as you have to believe he can win. "There's something incredibly heroic about Joel and the way he reads onscreen," says Hiller. "There's something about him that reads like he's just got a core of decency."What made these guys so right," she continues, "there's an element of [each character] that's just who these guys are as people, and the fact that they're both such phenomenal actors is an added bonus."For Paddy, O'Connor had Nolte in mind from the start. Indeed, he was to have played the role eventually assumed by Jon Voight in O'Connor's 2008 film "Pride and Glory," a drama that also focuses on the relationship between a father and his two sons. In "Warrior," Nolte's performance as the former alcoholic father trying to make amends for the past is gritty and heartbreaking. "He's a national treasure," says O'Connor. "And I wanted to use him how he's best and hoped the role would remind everyone what he's capable of."The only prominent female rolethat of Brendan's supportive wife, Tesswas filled by Jennifer Morrison. In a prior draft of the script, the source of Brendan and Tess's pecuniary problems was medical bills related to Tess's chronic illness. In the final draft, one of the couple's daughters was sickso Morrison's audition called for an interpretation that was very different from the one that wound up in the film. According to Hiller, Morrison was up to the task: "She auditioned as a very sick woman. She did a beautiful job; it was heartfelt and real and winning and all of those things. And then they changed the character, and she took that turn and did it beautifully."A number of recent films have been set in the world of MMA, and more are in the pipeline, but Gavin O'Connor's "Warrior" is arguably the first great one. Taken together, the performances in it place it on par with anything in the fight-film canon.Casting Director: Randi HillerDirector: Gavin O'ConnorWriters: Gavin O'Connor, Anthony Tambakis, Cliff DorfmanStarring: Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, Jennifer Morrison, Frank Grillo, Nick NolteThe Pitch: Two estranged brothers, an AWOL Marine (Hardy) and a high school teacher and family man (Edgerton), meet for the first time in 14 years as competitors in a winner-take-all mixed martial arts tournament. Taken together, the performances in it place it on par with anything in the fight-film canon.Casting Director: Randi HillerDirector: Gavin O'ConnorWriters: Gavin O'Connor, Anthony Tambakis, Cliff Dorfman Starring: Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, Jennifer Morrison, Frank Grillo, Nick NolteThe Pitch: Two estranged brothers, an AWOL Marine (Hardy) and a high school teacher and family man (Edgerton), meet for the first time in 14 years as competitors in a winner-take-all mixed martial arts tournament. Immortals #1 With So-So $32M, Jack And Jill Hangs Onto $27.5M, Puss In Boots $27M, Tower Heist $14M, J. Edgar $12M
SATURDAY 10:30 PM,2NDUPDATE: Latest Top10 grosses showbetter North American box office than previously thought thanks to the Veterans Day holiday weekendwhen school is out in 60% of the country. The good news isa break from slumping attendance with a $137M total moviegoing weekend, up+18% from last year. But the bad news is that these movies are still way underperforming what they should have done on a holiday weekend. That’s because these major studio pics were definitely not crowd-pleasers. Just check out their Rotten Tomatoes scores. Full analysis coming: 1. Immortals 3D (Relativity) NEW [3,112 Theaters] Friday $14M, Saturday $10.6M, Weekend $32M It did an unexciting $1.4M in Thursday midnight gross from approximately 900 locations then expanded locations and grosses during Friday. SoRelativity’s Immortals has stayedthe #1 movie with a $32M weekend bow, which is a rarity these days. But you also must realize that Immortals is a 300-clone yet won’t make 50% of the $70.8M opening amount that the original 2D movie did even with the higher 3D ticket prices. Immortals should have made $50+M, folks, given the genre and promotion. “300 was absolutely a big success, but we are in a different economy, marketplace, and time of year,” a Relativity exec tolds me Friday night. “Young males have been hard to get over the past year. Its a significant accomplishment that we got them. We are well positioned to be the 3rd highest R-rated film this year and the highest R-rated action film this year. This is a win for us.” Needless to say, Relativity is known for its spin. But it also claims reduced risk from foreign pre-sales on the supposedly $75M-budgeted film. Then explain to me why, for 2 years, Relativity was telling everybody and their mother that the budget ofImmortals was $120M. (Don’t believe me? Go back and do a Google search). It sold the filminternationally to foreign buyers with a budget of $120M. Now, all of asudden, the budget is $75 million? Puh-leeze. Audiences gave Immortals a ‘B’ CinemaScore but Rotten Tomatoesrecorded just37% positive reviews. MORE 2. Jack And Jill (Sony Pictures) NEW [3,438 Theaters] Friday $9M,Saturday $10.4M,Weekend $27.5M Sony Pictures’ Jack And Jill starring Adam Sandler was hard-pressed to equal his usual $30+M opening comedies. (Maybe moviegoers aren’t as moronic as Hollywood thinks they are. Rotten Tomatoes gave this turkey only a 3% positive score.) Picreceived a ‘B’ CinemaScore but also an ‘A-” from audiences under age 18. MORE 3. Puss In Boots 3D (DreamWorks Animation/Par) Week 3 [3,903 Theaters] Friday $8M,Saturday $10.1M,Weekend $27M,Cume $110.3M 4. Tower Heist (Universal) Week 2 [3,370 Theaters] Friday $4.6M,Saturday $5.8M,Weekend $14M (-42%), Cume $44.7M That superficially seems like a good hold. But then you realize Tower Heist wayunderperformed last weekend so it’s hardly impressive.Brett Ratner’s lousy week just keeps getting lousier. 5. J. Edgar (Warner Bros) NEW – opened Wednesday [1,901 Theaters] Friday $3.5M, Saturday $4.8M,Weekend $12M J. Edgar received a ‘B’ CinemaScore. Warner Bros is looking at a strong per screen average for Clint Eastwood’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-buzzed biopic. But top critics on Rotten Tomatoes surprisingly gave it only 55% positive reviews. MORE 6. Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (NL/Warner Bros) Week 2 [2,875 Theaters] Friday $2.2M, Saturday $2.4M,Weekend $6M (-64%),Cume $23.4M 7. In Time (Fox) Week 3 [3,127 Theaters] Friday $1.5M, Saturday $1.7M,$4.2M, Cume $30.7M 8. Paranormal Activity 3 (Paramount) Week 4 [2,776 Theaters] Friday $1.3M, Saturday $1.6M,Weekend $3.8M,Cume $101M 9. Footloose (Paramount) Week 5[2,215 Theaters] Friday $1M, Saturday$1.2M,$3M, Cume $49M 10. Real Steel (DreamWorks/Disney) Week 6[1,758 Theaters] Friday $650K, Saturday $850K,Weekend $2M, Cume $81.7M 4 PM: Since it’s Veteran’s Day, it’s a different kind of Friday with school out in 60% of the country. So I’m hesitant calling anything off matinees and will wait until tonight firms up. But if current trends continue,Sony Pictures’ Jack And Jill starring Adam Sandler looks hard-pressed to equal his usual $30+M opening comedies. (Maybemoviegoers aren’t as moronic as Hollywood thinks they are.)While the 300-clone Immortals, the3D pic from Relativity, may not makemore than40% ofthe $70.8M opening weekend amount that the original 2D movie did. Immortals right now is looking tobe the #1 movie at the North American box office but “could be anybody’s ballgame tonight,” a rival studio exec cautions me. Immortals did $1.4M in midnight gross from approximately 900 locations which is so-so. On the other hand, Warner Bros’ J. Edgar is looking at a strong per screen average for Clint Eastwood’s and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Oscar-buzzed biopic.Top 5 like this but check in later: 1. Immortals 3D (Relativity) $28M estimated weekend from 3,112 Theaters for debut 2. Jack And Jill (Sony Pictures) $25M estimated weekend from 3,438Theaters for debut 3. Puss In Boots 3D(DreamWorks Animation/Paramount) $22M estimated weekendfrom 3,903 Theaters for Week 3 4.J. Edgar (Warner Bros) $18M estimated weekend from1,901 Theaters after opening Wednesday in limited run 5. Tower Heist (Universal) $15M estimated weekendfrom 3,370 Theaters for Week 2

Existence In Individuals Days (Antoki no inochi)
A Shochiku Co. relieve a "Existence In Individuals DaysInch Film Partners production. (Worldwide sales: Shochiku, Tokyo, japan, japan.) Produced by Takashi Hirano, Atsuyuki Shimoda. Directed by Takahisa Zeze, Script, Sachiko Tanaka, Zeze, good novel by Masashi Sada. With: Masaki Okada, Nana Eikura, Taizo Harada, Tori Matsuzaka, Mitsuru Fukikoshi, Shota Sometani.Strong, seamless perfs from Masaki Okada and Nana Eikura bring a wealthy emotional intensity to Takahisa Zeze's potent meller "Existence In Individuals Days.Inch Following his near five-hour opus, "Heaven's Story," which attracted attention at Berlin, Zeze decides for just about any shorter running time here but packs in enough concentrated passion to go away auds breathless. Pic won the Montreal fest's Innovation award and seems vulnerable to survive at future fests, particularly people by getting an Asian bent. B.O. needs to be strong when the film bows November. 19 in Japan, where local smashes for instance "The Lightning Tree" and "Confessions" have given Okada a hollywood. Pic opens while using startling picture of sharp scissors plunging to the uniform from the schoolboy, nailing it for the floor that is a tumbler of who is the owner of the slashed uniform, teen Kyohei Nagashima (Masaki Okada), sitting nude round the family roof and looking out over Tokyo's and surrounding and surrounding suburbs. Action then jumps ahead three years, just like a tentative, stuttering Kyohei arrives for his first workday. Working alongside cheerful boss Saso (Taizo Harada) and subdued co-worker Yuki (Nana Eikura), Kyohei visits houses where corpses happen to be situated to have the ability to decontaminate the premises and divide the deceased's possessions into trash and articles "being consecrated." Kyohei is undecided about themselves or his duties, but Saso is just grateful the newcomer doesn't flee within the first sight of maggots. At the office, Kyohei notices slash scars on Yuki's arms this marks the beginning of a nervous romance. Nuances of Yuki's troubled past are saved under systems prior to the third act, but for the time being the narrative cycles involving the present and earlier occasions just before Kyohei's high-school trauma, recommended at inside the opening images. Much like many teen-focused Nipponese films, bullying reaches the center of the drama, and Kyohei's experience proves more disturbing than most. Pacing is deliberate but steady, building with a dramatic apex by getting an electrifying mountaintop confrontation between Kyohei and also the chief tormentor from secondary school, Matsui (Tori Matsuzaka). It's a literal cliffhanger that demonstrates Zeze's fascination with supplying the viewer not just arty internal brooding, additionally to his flair for creating spectacle despite financial limitations. Pic possibly peaks too soon at this time around, departing the sense the ultimate reels, although not unnecessary, may have been more tightly edited. Eikura ("April Bride," "Tokyo, japan, japan Koen") is fantastically understated becoming Yuki, brittle but furthermore possessed of strong feelings she's too insecure to share. Though gangly Okada ("Departures," "Confessions") seems a tad too old inside the schoolboy flashbacks, he matches Eikura's onscreen fragility, as well as the initial discrepancy seems less noticeable since the drama reaches become more absorbing. Stylistically, Zeze alternates between restless wobblecam and traditional tripod designs, nevertheless the camera moves will be thoughtful, clearly designed to increase either understanding or tension still, as being a lot Japanese fare, the film is overlit. Takatsugu Muramatsu's treacly score feels from sync while using power of the proceedings the pic's finest moments transpire when the thesps haven't any musical support.Camera (color, 35mm-to-HD), Atsuhiro Nabeshima editor, Jun'ichi Kikuchi music, Takatsugu Muramatsu art director, Toshihiro Isomi appear (Dolby Digital), Mitsugu Shiratori. Rep: No Truth To Justin Bieber & Selena Gomez Split Rumors
First Published: November 5, 2011 8:10 PM EDT Credit: Getty Images Caption MTV Europe Music Awards Hostess Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber hold hands as they arrive to attend the MTV Voices Dinner during the MTV Europe Music Awards 2011 at the Merchant Hotel on November 5, 2011LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez fans can rest easy the teen power couple is still going strong. Contrary to an online report on Friday, Justin and Selena have not split up, a rep for Selena told Access Hollywood on Friday night. Rumors of the split came just days after a 20-year-old California woman, Mariah Yeater, claimed Justin was the father of her 3-month-old son. Late Friday afternoon, it was reported Selena had dumped The Biebs in the wake of the scandal. Yeater filed a paternity suit in San Diego Superior Court earlier this week, claiming she was 19 when she had a brief sexual encounter with a then-16 Bieber after one of his concerts last fall at Staples Center in Los Angeles. During an interview on the Today show on Friday morning in NYC, Justin rebuffed the womans claims, claiming he had never met the woman. To set the record straight, none of it is true, Justin told Matt Lauer on Today. I know Im going to be a target, but Im never going to be a victim, Justin added. Its crazy, because every night after the show Ive gone right from the stage right to my car. So its crazy that some people want to make up such false allegations. A source close to Justin also shot down rumors of the split on Friday night, telling Access that there was no truth to the rumors and the couple is still heading to Europe together this weekend for the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast. Justin will be performing at the show while Selena will be the host. Copyright 2011 by NBC Universal, Inc. All rights reserved. I, Alex Cross Sparks Producers Lawsuit Over Claims Of Credit By Rivals
Producers of Summit Entertainment’s upcoming release I, Alex Cross directed by Rob Cohenwith Tyler Perry stepping into the role created by Morgan Freeman have filed suit against other producers who claim they should receive compensation and screen credit for the movie.Bill Block and Paul Hanson are partners in QED, which produced the project that Summit has acquired for distribution.QED claims in the suit that prolonged negotiations that began in 2008 with producersJan Korbelin and Marina Grasic (who withMark Lindsay have launched Cargo Entertainment)and their company Visitor Pictures failed to come to an agreement on Visitor’s involvement with the development of I, Alex Cross. QED claims it drafted and redrafted multiple memorandums of understanding for Visitors’ involvement which were all rejected and no agreement was reached or signed. In 2009 QED says it formally notified Visitors that all previous offers were withdrawn. QED asserts that development of the movie proceeded without Visitors, who “indeed sought to have no involvement,” according to the suit. Now that principal photography on I, Alex Cross has finished and the movie is expected to be released next year, QED claims that Visitors has resurfaced and is demanding compensation and screen credit, probably in preparation for legal action of their own. QED and other plaintiffs Suejack Inc. and JPB Businesses are seeking a court ruling in the case to remove the “cloud” cast over I, Alex Cross by Visitors’ claims before the movie is released. As for the movie, in addition to Perry as the detective, Lost‘sMatthew Fox plays a serial killer who murders Crosss wife as revenge for Cross thwarting an earlier attempted murder. Ed Burns plays Fox’s partner. Marc Moss wrote the script and director Cohen and he generated a new draft that takes some different turns than the novel. In addition to QED partners Block and Hanson, producers include Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen, who spearhead Pattersons film endeavors. The movie was packaged by WME.

Radio Giant Clear Channel Cuts Local DJs
NY - Clear Channel, the largest U.S. radio station operator, cut dozens of local DJs in smaller markets this week, saying the cuts were part of a broader revamp of its approximately 600 regional radio stations rather than a pure cost cutting move, the NY Times reported. The company, which employs 12,000, didn't detail how many people were let go, but the Times said that some of the DJs believed the number was in the hundreds. Clear Channel also has 250 stations in large markets, such as NY and Los Angeles. Given a big pile of debt, Clear Channel has been looking for ways to run its business as efficiently as possible, the paper highlighted. Critics said the layoffs are the latest step in a strategy that has replaced local programming with cheaper nationally syndicated shows. The move by Clear Channel therefore raised fresh concerns about the homogenization of radio programming, the Times said. "We've completely rethought our regional market strategy and reinvented our operations in those markets in a way that will let us compete on a new level - and succeed using all of Clear Channel's resources, scale and talent," a company spokeswoman told the Times. Clear Channel Radio parent CC Media Holdings recently promoted former AOL and MTV top executive Robert Pittman, making him CEO. He had joined the company in late 2010 as an investor and chairman of entertainment and media platforms. In Albuquerque, Tony Lynn and Myles Copeland are now the only remaining local live hosts left at Clear Channel's country music station KBQI. "I guess it all comes down to the bottom line, and as a small business owner, I understand that," Lynn told the Times. "But on the other hand, sometimes it's more than just a few dollars more. Radio is an intimate medium and that's what's being ignored. Listeners develop a special bond with the on-air personalities, and in the long run that proves beneficial for both the station and the advertisers." Each week, furthermore, you will find the commitment of elevated and stylized mayhem consequently from the coolly lethal Reese (Jim Caviezel), who's so unflappably taciturn within the explosive takedowns of rooms full of crooks they can make Jack Bauer appear just like a blabbermouth wimp.Reese's partner in crime-stopping, Michael Emerson since the mousy genius Finch, is evenly reserved and mysterious, on and on to determine justice produced by concentrating on potential sufferers and/or perps, remaining a measure while watching perplexed government physiques. Reese follows his leads with Terminator-like bluntness, less than taking no crooks - must be handful of finish off trussed in the vehicle trunk - but never flinching from hands-to-hands combat or possibly a gun fight. It's all regulated controlled just a little crazy, but much twistier and less conventional in comparison to standard whodunit. Shame Trailer Hits The Web
McQueen & Fassbender, erotic dramatistsShame can be a movie about sex. A movie about Brandon (Michael Fassbender) and sex. Not love, not closeness, not romance... sex.So as you'd expect, our planet's first trailer for your Hunger director's second film (both with Fassbender starring)is rather, well, sexual, slapping you with images of Fassbender writhing, kissing, charming in most cases like a degenerate individual. We have seen glimpses of Brandon's sister, Cissy (Mulligan), whose sudden arrival (and indefinite stay) ruins his perfectly built existence, but it's certainly the Fassbender show, pure and simple.Conjuring up an atmospheric arena of meaningless sex, addiction and dependency, it's pretty moving stuff from McQueen and Fassbender, plus it only causes us to desire to watch the film a lot more.Funny that, it a trailer an' all, but that's it:they've got us hooked, good and proper. Shame (no pun intended)we will need to attend before the month of the month of january 12 next season before we could notice inside the cinema.

What Amy Baer's Exit Means for CBS Films' Future
Four years after its launch, CBS Films faces a crossroads. A spokesman for CBS Films says "we are transitioning into a team-oriented structure" that forgoes a new CEO hire, but outsiders wouldn't be surprised if Hammer, a former Lionsgate exec who's been at the company since December, takes on a solo leadership role. Others, though, suggest that an outside hire with stronger creative credentials is a must. COVER STORY: Rachel Maddow: How This Wonky-Tonk Woman Won TV Baer's tenure was marked by a string of pictures like Extraordinary Measures and The Back-Up Plan that failed to impress. Acquisitions like The Mechanic didn't stir up excitement, either. CBS Films is getting more serious about acquisitions. It picked up Salmon Fishing in the Yemen in a high-profile $5 million buy in Toronto. And Hammer and Shooman appear determined to create a more filmmaker-driven home: They wrestled away the action comedy Seven Psychopaths from other suitors like Focus Features. The company also is intent on improving its marketing clout by keeping Terry Press (Gladiator) in the consultant role she took on a year ago. Matt's Help guide to Tuesday TV: A Glee High Note, New Girl, and much more
Idina Menzel, Jum Michele WHEN You are A GLEEK: (Apologies towards the "Jet Song," once we prepare our audition for West Side Story - or perhaps in Kurt and Blaine's situation, West Hollywood Side Story?) The easiest method to enjoy Glee nowadays would be to accept as well as whenever possible to embrace its flaws. Type of like how a figures work through their very own perceived weak points and various insecurities to embrace their inner star. (Just watch Mercedes blossom now into full-blown diva mode, for better and inevitably for worse. It's pretty thrilling.) You are able to tell, from last week's and particularly this week's impressive "Asian F" episode (Fox, 8/7c), that Glee is attempting awfully tough to improve in the mess of last season. The background music is much better built-into story, the storyline is much better built-into character, and often the figures even seem sensible. This is just one of individuals rare Glee episodes in which the focus is shared among most of the gamers, together with a very touching major subplot for that usually mute Mike Chang (dancer extraordinaire Harry Shum), who finds his voice while battling rich in parental anticipation that won't acknowledge his dream. We get Brittany taking center stage in her own (typically improbable) "Run the planetInch campaign for class leader having a "girl energy" anthem, Mercedes emerging in to the "Spotlight" finally, as well as on the domestic front, Will and Emma finally facing her neuroses mind-on, supplying Matthew Morrison a welcome solo turn that's awfully warm for any Coldplay. It isn't an ideal episode - Glee isn't perfect, and it might be much less interesting whether it were - but a couple of melodramatic twists aside, this really is classic Glee: carried out in the heart and also the soul.Want more fall TV news? Sign up for TV Guide Magazine now!HERE COMES THE JESS: Hot around the heels of last week's full-season pick-up, Fox's New Girl (9:01/8:01c) provides for us another illustration of why this charming comedy is definitely an instant champion. This time around, it's Jess (Zooey Deschanel) who's available supporting among the men, rather than the other way round. Her task would be to escort the heartsick Nick (Mike Manley, pathetically funny) to some wedding, expecting reducing the sting should he encounter his beloved ex. To drag this off, she must "suppress the Jess," that is easier in theory, as well as impossible. Bouquets for this show. And That Is The Reality: Even when you do not remember Edith Ann or even the other Laugh-In figures that put her into the spotlight, Lily Tomlin is really a genuine legend - and today she's area of the NCIS family. McGee's family, more specifically. Tonight (CBS, 8/7c), within the stunt casting each week, she plays the first kind probie's grandmother, who's suggested as a factor within the murder of the Navy lieutenant. It is simply unfortunate that Henry Gibson is not still around to recite a poem for that occasion.IN HIGH GEAR: FX's Sons of Anarchy (10/9c) is getting a powerful 4th season filled with potent conflict within and with no motorcycle club, and tonight's eventful episode provides lots of red-colored meat on all fronts. I am especially attracted towards the core conflict symbolized through the late John Teller's revealing letters, which Clay and Jemma are eager to retrieve and destroy. But now offers a enchantingly sleazy cameo by David Hasselhoff like a porn producer-director who provides an crazy line that's certain to end up part of the "Hoff's" canon. And poor Juice (Theo Rossi) has reason to stress once the relentless Sheriff Roosevelt firms pressure on him to betray his siblings, lest their own racial secret will get out. What exactly else is on? ... Discovery launches a brand new funnel, Velocity (changing HD Theater beginning at 7/6c), focusing on trendy males with programming that concentrates on sports, leisure, travel, adventure and, on opening evening, the automotive world, with original instances of Motorweek, American Icon, What's My Vehicle Worth?, Chasing after Classic Cars and Inside West Coast Customs (sense a trend there?) ... While Chaz Bono breaks transgender ground on Dwts, ESPN Films looks to a pioneering transgender athlete in Reneé (ESPN, 8/7c), a documentary profile of Reneé Richards, who fought against within the '70s to become recognized within the tennis world after her gender reassignment. ... The ultimate chapter of Ken Burns' intoxicating Prohibition docu-miniseries (PBS, check local agendas), entitled "A Nation of Hypocrites," takes this so-known as "Noble Experiment" to the natural conclusion: repeal. ... For fans of mock news, a brand new season of Onion News Network (10/9c) starts using the finish around the globe, as ONN fearlessly stays around the air to report the imminent disaster from the planet from an asteroid sailing our way. How Russian Broadcasters Are Trying to Lure Young Audiences Back to TV
It's 8 p.m., and Ilya Nikolayev, a Moscow state university student, is logging on to the Internet. Instead of watching the new Russian TV shows designed with him in mind, the 21-year-old prefers Facebook and its Russian equivalent, Vkontakte.our editor recommendsMIPCOM's Personality of the Year: Anne Sweeney Addresses TV's Digital Age, Lessons Learned (Q&A)MIPCOM 2011: 'The Firm' Showrunner Spills Secrets About NBC's New Midseason DramaMIPCOM 2011: Steven Van Zandt Goes Norwegian in Bilingual Gangster Thriller 'Lillyhammer'Will 'Transporter' Deliver?MIPCOM: Eddie Izzard on 'Treasure Island': Its More 'Goodfellas' Than 'Pirates of The Caribbean' "I can get everything I need online," he says. "Links to music tracks, videos, shows, anything. And I can get access to all that whenever I want to, so I don't really watch television much these days." Nikolayev's attitude is similar to that of millions of young Russians. It's a change that's sounding alarms within the country's TV sector, which is easily the largest and most profitable in Eastern Europe ($4.2 billion spent on TV ads in 2010). The decline in viewers is now leading Russia's biggest broadcasters to shake up programming in an effort to lure coveted younger viewers away from their laptops. It's a subject that will surely be front and center during a Focus on Russia sidebar at MIPCOM. During the past year, fewer Russians have been watching TV. According to media research group TNS Russia, from January to August 2011, 67.8 percent of the population age 4 and up watched television, down from 69 percent during the same period in 2010. (An estimated 95 percent of Americans watch TV.) Among the coveted 18-to-25 Russian demographic, the drop was an even more alarming 2.6 percent. It doesn't help matters that the Russian population is shrinking, making for fewer people to target in the most important demographic. "Younger people don't read papers and watch very little TV," says Konstantin Maksimyuk, creative director at market research company Novy Internet. "Television is for lazy and tired people, while the active and young choose the Internet as it gives them more interactive opportunities." According to TNS, an estimated 25 million Russians -- 17.5 percent of the population of 143 million -- use social network websites. Russia's handful of main national TV channels are protected from a full online onslaught as Internet penetration in far-flung regions lags behind that of main free-to-air channels. But when the Internet catches up, the decline of traditional TV might become more significant. Channels including Rossiya 1 and Rossiya 2, run by state-owned broadcaster VGTRK, say they have nothing to worry about, but the country's biggest TV network, Channel One, admits that its programming models are out of touch with contemporary Russian viewers. "You can't remain enthralled to outdated stereotypes," says Konstantin Ernst, general director of Channel One. "The television model, which effectively worked for 15 years, has deteriorated, broken down and exhausted itself. There is a need for new formats." Blue-chip dramas like CSI and Dexter are popular in Russia, but international reality formats such as Survivor, Big Brother and American Idol thrive. This helps explain why Russian programmers are targeting audiences with a mix of comedy and variety shows. Channel One is fighting to keep the viewers it has while reaching out to those it has never targeted. Beginning in 2012, the channel will switch its preferred demographic from 18-plus to 14-to-59 and offer targeted fare for age slivers within that bracket. Among the programs aiming for younger audiences are Channel One's edgy sketch-comedy shows Big Difference, Personality Cartoon and Yesterday Live, all of which feature irreverent content designed to compete with popular online fare like the website Funny or Die. Responding to the social networking buzz, by which foreign series generate more chatter than domestic fare, the station also has launched the late-night block Urban Hipsters, which will feature foreign series popular among Russian Internet audiences. Slated to run in that slot are Showtime's The Borgias and Californication, AMC's Mad Men and Fox's Terra Nova. In addition, Channel One hopes to entice younger viewers with the provocative Crash Course on Happy Life. Revolving around young, urban women, it is directed by Valeriya Gay Germanika, known for her teen-targeted show School, which shocked Russia's conservative viewers with its unflattering depiction of contemporary Moscow teenagers. Even channels with older audiences are acknowledging competition from the Internet. Ren TV, which targets viewers ages 35-to-45, has launched a website that allows viewers to watch the channel in real time and create their own programming. They only pay for shows they watch. "It's not really about opposition between television and the Internet," says Alexander Nechayev, deputy director general and programming director at NTV. "It's just another way of accessing the same content." Indeed, some Russian programmers see the growing popularity of online entertainment as more of an opportunity than a threat. "Television and the Internet will turn from competitors to partners, and work toward that end is actively in progress," says Vyacheslav Murugov, chief content officer at CTC Media and head of CTC Channel. Ultimately, it will be for Russian viewers to decide whether that model works for them. "That would be probably fun," says Nikolayev. "I mean, watching stuff and discussing it with friends in real time? But will it be considered television? I would still say it would be online stuff, and I would prefer to be doing it on my computer."
